1 liter of tears is one of my favourite Japanese drama ever. To be honest I started to watch this drama due to the casting which consist of Nishkido Ryo whom back then was a member of NEWS, a Japanese group of singer, now a full timer singer only in Kanjani 8. But I got to say this drama nailed it, from plot to directing to acting, it definitely doesn't disappoint the viewers! The drama was made based on true story of Kitou Aya who suffered from Spinocerebellar Degeneration Disease (SCA). She was 15 then. Sawajiri Erika who played as Ikeuchi Aya portrays the life of Kitou Aya, who struggled and fought for her life.
The story started when Aya lost her balance while running to school on her first day as high school student. Although it might not trigger the mind of any ordinary people but not Aya's mom knowing that her daughter who is a basketball player would not easily tripped herself. Hence while rushing Aya to hospital due to the injury of hitting her chin the ground, Aya's mom was really worried that it could be more than just some bruises and wounds. She then asked the opinions of medical experts and had Aya runs some test in the hospital. When the test result came out, they were told that Aya is diagnosed with the illness called SCA. Aya was broken hearted when she found out what the disease could do to her and felt is was really cruel for such reality hitting her youthful life. She would frequently asked her mom, "Why me"?!
Both Aya and her mom were determined that they would not give up, hoping that one day with the modern medical technology, a cure could be found. Meanwhile Aya gets through the challenging life by writing her stories and poems that actually give those who were in the same position as her hopes and dreams. After 10 years of surviving, 25 years old Aya falls to deep sleep where she no longer has to feel the pains and left the world with no regrets. That she's a survivor, a mentor, and a loving daughter.

Aya was actually waiting for the senior she once had a crush on. But the senior ditch her after knowing she had an incurable disease. Nishkido was running to Aya after founding out about it, bringing the umbrella but not using it. Cliche huh? But I guess if you knew your love one waiting under the rain, you wouldn't even realised when your feet starts to walk where your heart told you to... right?! =I
